Hi! My name is Iwona Palamountain and I’m the person behind Sygnatura Bindery. I’m a self-taught bookbinder and a lover of colours and patterns. I’m consistently inspired by, and in awe of nature. I currently reside in my home country of Poland. Here I hold dear to my heart an ever-growing collection of papers and fabrics, in my colourful studio.
I brought Sygnatura to life in 2015 in Australia, under the name of INKD. That’s when I decided to seriously start following my passions. INKD, a short for inked, was a nod to several years of career in a field of cardmaking. It was a path that I greatly enjoyed, and it gave me worldwide recognition and resulted in many publications in magazines in Australia and United States. This passion remains to this day, and so in Sygnatura Bindery I brought this aspect of creativity back to life.
Sygnatura, meaning signature in english, is a term that I’m particularly fond of. In its meaning I weaved in the craft of bookbinding (signature being the term for a unit of a book which is folded and stitched together) with dedication to uniqueness of my products. I like to set every piece apart as a one-off treasure, and signature style is all my own.
Apart from dealing with all things paper, I entertain my creativity in other aspects of life. I greatly enjoy cooking and baking, interior decorating and garden design (I’m a landscape architect by trade), creative journaling, forest walks and mushroom picking, reading and writing poetry.
I also have a penchant for philozophising. My favourite quote by Robest Frost is:
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”.
